Sick Day

I woke up Saturday with The Crud. In case you aren't familiar with this terminology, The Crud, is when you produce copious amounts of snot (the thick, yucky, yellow-green stuff) from mulitple sources (i.e. nose, throat, etc). Sunday I lost my voice . . . it's Tuesday . . . and there is no sign of it returning.

So the couch and I have become good buddies and I have been catching up on Sleepy Hollow (seriously, what did we do before Hulu?). Anyway, this all means that this was my #OOTD (and I decided to be the headless blogger). An ASU t-shirt that says "Life is great" (front) "at Appalachian State" and my favorite yoga pants from Marshalls.

I did leave my BFF (aka the couch) to go to the local drug store. I couldn't just let the makeup counter pass me by, I had to pick up some goodies.

In the past few days I've been watching YouTube videos on makeup tutorials. This made me feel like I just had to have some more brushes (duh, obviously).  I am not willing to invest a lot of cash, so these $1 brushes from L.A. Colors screamed my name. I plan to use the large Blush Brush for countoring/bronzer and the two smaller Eyes Shadow Brushes for blending.

Then I picked up the brown 'browser' kit from NYC for $3.50 which was a little bit above the budget but it does come with tweezers. I've been blessed with very thick eyebrows. My only hiccup is that I have a scar on my left eyebrow from stitches. So I've had some pretty scary waxing experiences (we're talking missing eyebrows here people). Which means I do alot of it myself with tweezers . . . not always successful . . . which requires drawing to help me look less like a creeper.

Hopefully getting to use my new finds will make getting up tomorrow morning for work a little bit more fun.

Sew Much Fun

As you may remember from this post Santa brought me a sewing machine last Christmas. I am still learning how to use the thing, but I thought I would share a few of my projects with you.

All of these projects were completed using tutorials and patterns gathered on Pinterest, Blogs and Etsy. I will do my best to post a link to each tutorial on this post. But you can check out my Pinterest board to see all of my inspiration.

I LOVE stationary supplies and organizing them. It's makes me very happy (#iblameitonmymomma). So, one of the first projects I tacked was this organizer, that I love. The tutorial came from an Etsy shop called Watermelon Wishes, you can visit their page here.
The only thing I would change, is that I would get the plastic inserts you can buy at craft stores. (I tried to find an example but have not been successful thus far). You could also use foam board or cardboard to make your portfolio a little bit sturdier.

Next, I made this casserole carrier using a tutorial from 2 Little Hooligans. These are the cutest, easiest tutorials I've found.  One of the things I learned from this project -- always check the width of the fabric and adjust accordingly (#measuretwicecutonce).
I gave this carrier as a present so I didn't get a chance to test it out myself. It fits a 9x13" pan, but the velcro does allow from some variation. I will say that I plan to make at least one of these as a Christmas present this year.

The next project isn't exactly a sewing project, but it has helped me immensely in my sewing adventures. This pin was the inspiration. I used 1/2" chip board, coated with clear acrylic paint and covered with  quilt batting and cotton fabric that is stapled to the board.
Did I mention that I am obsessed with pigs?

This last project was actually one of the first projects I completed. Sadly, it did not last very long before Miss Audrey chewed it to death. If I made another for the dogs, and that's a big if, I would choose a more durable fabric (maybe duck cloth? or vinyl even?). But this would be great for kids (unless they chew on pillows like a puppy) so I may make some for my sweet little Ns (nieces and nephews)

Here's the blog that inspired this project.  It's an easy project, I would suggest this for a starter project.

Since I feel a little more confident sewing (still by no means an expert) I plan to give you guys more details on my projects and some of the things I've learned along the way. Example: Keep calm and get out the seam ripper.

#OOTD

This potentially my last Tuesday off for a little while. The house is in desperate need of tender love and care, but it's not going to happen today (except for laundry and cleaning out the DVR).  So I will be running errands which means the fabric store, the dollar store, and the grocery store.

Since I wear scrubs 4 to 5 days out of the week, I really enjoy putting my outfit together on my days off. Today, it needs to be something comfortable and somewhat stylish. Because I am an avid lover of cardigans, scarfs and boots . . . this outfit has all three.

Jeans: Marshalls
Tshirt: Marshalls
Cardigan: Banana Republic (came to me via yard sale)
Boots: I have no memory
Scarf: Missionary. I have no memory
Watch: Fossil
Bangles: downtown Morganton
Earrings: Charming Charlie's

Gone With the Wind

If reading a book is like being in a relationship then Gone With the Wind (a.k.a. GWTW) is a loooooonnnnngggg term relationship (I don't think I added enough O's). Don't get me wrong, I LOVED the love stories in GWTW and I admire an epic novel centered on the most selfish, self-centered (yes, you can be both), thoughtless, hateful (but yet somehow loveable) woman I have ever "met."

In fact, I see a little bit of myself in Scarlett. When she is backed into the coner and left with pratically nothing she rallies. Granted she's too stubborn to accept (much less admit) to her own weaknesses . . . (example being her love for Rhett or her dependency on Melanie). But like I said, I see myself in Scarlett.

If you've never read GWTW or watched the movie, you can go to goodreads.com or amazon.com to read a synopsis, and plenty of reviews. There's really not a whole lot you can say about GWTW that hasn't been said before.

Next on the list: The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern. I saw this reviewed in People magazine (by someone with a literary profession) so we'll see how it goes.
